Biography
Dr. Jennifer K. Mitchell, vocalist and educator, earned her D.M.A. from the New Orleans
Baptist Theological Seminary, in New Orleans, LA. Prior to earning her B.A., and M.M.
in Vocal Performance from the University of New Orleans, a true New Orleans girl from
the heart, she began her vocal training in high school at the New Orleans Center for
the Creative Arts (N.O.C.C.A). She started her undergraduate studies at Loyola University,
New Orleans. While At Loyola, she participated in a number of opera productions including:
Lakme, The Gondoliers and Orpheus in the Underworld. She also has done the role of
Rosalinde from Die Fledermaus, while studying in Houston, TX. Dr. Mitchell was member
of the New Orleans Opera Association chorus, debuting as a soloist in 2010 in the
opera Porgy and Bess. She also served in ministry as a choir director and worship
leader at her home church, Life Center Cathedral. Her greatest desire is to honor
God with the gifts He has given her by sharing them with her community and the world.

Why did you come to Ouachita?
I came to Ouachita because it seemed like the best fit in terms of growing in my career,
and I also value the supportive environment built on Christian principles.
Why did you decide to become a professor?
While I had no intentions on becoming a professor, I had a great teacher who encouraged
me to pursue the profession. I trusted her guidance and insight, and I'm thoroughly
glad that I did!
Why is your subject an important one in our world?
Music and art are in the fabric of everything we do in society. If you remove them,
we would lose so much connection and beauty in the world.
What do you want future students to know about your degree program?
I want future students to know that our degree program will not only give them exceptional
knowledge in our field, but will also sincerely grow them as people and enhance their
faith journey in a capacity they could never imagine.
What do you like to do in your free time?
- Sleep
- Go the movies
- Go to the beach
- Take road trips
- Try new restaurants
What has been a meaningful Bible verse or passage for you?
Proverbs 3:5-6.
