Resources for Study Abroad Students
Once your application to study abroad has been accepted, begin planning the details of your experience.
Apply to the Study Abroad School
Each student must apply personally to the study abroad school of their choice. The
Grant Center does not apply for them.
Security Training
We want our students to be well-equipped for any situation they may find themselves
in, which is why Fort Sherman Academy Security Training is required for all members of the Ouachita community to travel outside of the U.S.
This includes study abroad students, mission groups, band or choral tours, etc.
Health Insurance
All students and faculty traveling in connection with Ouachita are required to purchase
an international health insurance policy due to visa regulations and safety concerns.
The Grant Center will purchase the policy for each traveler, and the cost will be
billed through student accounts.
For short-term study abroad such as summer programs (European Study Tour, Biblical Studies Tour, Costa Rica, etc.) and mission trips travelers will use the Gallagher Student Health Series Brochure with costs
Semester or long term insurance is procured through the Grant Center for comprehensive coverage world wide.

Visa Information
Many countries require that students from the U.S. obtain student visas in order to
study there. See the Association of International Educators (NAFSA) website for details on the country where you will study.
Visa Information for Your Destination
Travel Plans
Each student is responsible to make his or her own travel plans, including securing
flight arrangements, a current passport, etc.
For information on required and suggested immunizations see the CDC (Center for Disease Control) site and the countries you will be traveling in.

Cancellation Insurance
Particularly those who are participating in the European Study Tour or other summer
programs may want to consider purchasing travel cancellation insurance. This covers
your financial loss in the event that the trip has to be cancelled for reasons covered
in the plan.
