Today, they serve at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, along with Marvin’s full-time teaching here in the Pruet School of Christian Studies. Dr. Pate loves having “one foot” in the classroom and the “other” in the church, while “juggling” his writing schedule. The Pates have a website devoted to their ministry to the church: This site offers some 10 conference packages to the churches dealing with the topics ranging from leadership in the church to books of the Bible to dealing with people in the church who have personality disorders.

Dr. Pate is a member of the following professional organizations:

  • Evangelical Theological Society
  • Society of Biblical Literature
  • National Association of Baptist Professors of Religion
