Ouachita Baptist University will host the Tiger Steel Drum Ensemble in its fall concert on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 7:30 p.m. in Mabee Fine Art Center’s McBeth Recital Hall. The performance is free and open to the public.

Four Ouachita students named finalists in regional NATS competition

Four Ouachita Baptist University students were named finalists at the 39th annual Southern Region National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) conference held recently at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.

 

Ouachita’s 23rd annual Festival of Christmas on Dec. 5-6 to highlight “Christmas Through the Ages”

Ouachita Baptist University’s School of Fine Arts will present its 23rd annual production of A Festival of Christmas on Dec. 5 and 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Performing Arts Center. Highlighting the theme of “Christmas Through the Ages,” the production will feature Christmas music from the 1930s to present day.

 

Jon and Glenda Secrest wrap up 21 years as opera co-directors

Ouachita Baptist University professors of music Jon and Glenda Secrest have directed the school’s opera production for the past two decades. But when the final curtain falls on this year’s production of The Mikado, it also will mark the end of the Secrests’ roles as co-directors since 1994.

 

Ouachita Opera Theatre to present “The Mikado” Nov. 20-23

Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music/Opera Theatre will present Sir Arthur Sullivan’s opera The Mikado on Nov. 20-22 at 7:30 p.m. as well as a matinee performance on Nov. 23 at 2:30 p.m. in Jones Performing Arts Center. Ouachita Baptist University’s fall Jazz Band concert will be held Monday, Nov. 24, at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Performing Arts Center. The performance is free to the public and will also be webcast from www.obu.edu/band.

 

Ouachita Singers & Women’s Chorus to present concert Oct. 30

Ouachita Baptist University’s premier choral ensembles, Ouachita Singers and Women’s Chorus, will present their fall concert Thursday, Oct. 30, at 7:30 p.m. The concert, which is free and open to the public, will be held in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital Hall on Ouachita’s campus.

Chad Burris, a senior musical theatre major at Ouachita Baptist University, recently made his Broadway debut in the national tour of The Book of Mormon.

Ouachita Baptist University will host pianist Olga Krayterman, 2013 National Federation of Music Clubs Young Artist winner, in concert Tuesday, Sept.16. The concert, set for 7:30 p.m. in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital Hall, is free to the public.

 

U.S. Senate confirms Ouachita alumna Jane Chu as National Endowment for the Arts chairman

Dr. Jane Chu, a 1979 graduate of Ouachita Baptist University, was confirmed today by the U.S. Senate as chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts. Chu was nominated for the post in February by President Obama.

 

Joanna Horton wins OBU’s Virginia Queen Piano Competition

Joanna Horton, a sophomore piano performance major from Arkadelphia, Ark., won first place in Ouachita Baptist University’s annual Virginia Queen Piano Competition on May 2.
