Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will host world-traveled pianist Dr. Jinha Park in concert on Friday, Feb. 7, at 7:30 p.m., in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital Hall. The performance, which is part of the university’s 2019-2020 Guest Artist Series, is free and open to the public.
After beginning her piano studies at age six and making her public debut at 14, Park holds a long track record as a performer in America, Europe and Korea. She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at Kumho Art Hall, Seoul Arts Center and Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, and also has made appearances in Barcelona, Perugia, St. Petersburg and Union City.
Park has been a soloist with Alicante Symphony Orchestra, Festival Philharmonic Orchestra, Romanian Oltenia Symphony Orchestra, Romanian Timisoara Symphony Orchestra, Vienna CMS Chamber Orchestra and Virtuoso Brunesis Orchestra. She also has won major piano competitions, including the Aria Competition, Burgos International Music Competition and Vienna Allegro Vivo International Chamber Music Competition.
“It is with great pleasure that we host Dr. Park at Ouachita,” said Dr. Mary Chung, assistant professor of music at Ouachita. “Park is an internationally acclaimed artist and has performed extensively in the U.S. and abroad. This unique opportunity our students will have of being exposed to her level of artistry is paramount to their education. We look forward to an incredible concert and masterclass during her time here at Ouachita.”
Park currently serves as chair of the piano department at Kirov Academy in Washington D.C., as deputy artistic director at Kirov International Music Festival and associate director of Colorado International Piano Academy.
To begin the program, Park will perform “Sonata in A Major, Hob. XVI:43” by Joseph Haydn. Next, she will perform “Ballade in F Minor, Op. 52” by Frédéric Chopin and “Sonata in B Minor, S. 178” by Franz Liszt. Park will then conclude with “Mirage” by Elisenda Fabregas.
Park also will serve as a judge for Ouachita’s annual Virginia Queen Piano Competition this spring, which will be held Feb. 7, and teach a master class on Saturday, Feb. 8.
