New Student Move-in

Friday, August 14, 2020 • 8 a.m.-4 p.m. • By appointment only (See more about new student move-in here.)

Early Move-In

If you are in a group that normally moves in early, please contact your faculty or staff leader or coach for details about your group’s schedule.

Special protocols will be in place for move-in this year in light of COVID-19. Policies and plans are subject to change as guidance regarding COVID-19 is updated to reflect the current situation in Arkansas and Clark County. All activities will follow the most current standards for health precautions, including such measures as physical distancing, frequent hand sanitation and face coverings.

Move-in Appointments: Similar to move-out in Spring 2020, you must schedule an appointment to move in this fall. Students will be sent a link to sign up for a move-in appointment on July 23; sign-ups will be open from July 23-August 11. Appointments are scheduled in 3-hour blocks each day August 13-August 15 and are specific to each residence hall or apartment complex. It’s important that you arrive during your chosen time so that we can minimize the number of people moving through the residence halls at once. This system allows us to keep the number of students moving in below 8 students per hour per facility throughout the weekend. Once your car is unloaded, follow directions for moving your car and making a space for the next shift of move-in appointments. If you cannot move in during this window, contact your resident director.

Health Screenings: Before you arrive on campus, you must complete the COVID-19 screening form at

Limited Helpers: While we love all of your family members, only two people are allowed in the residence hall with you (you + two) at any one time during move-in this year. If you have more than two helpers coming to assist you, take turns carrying things into the building and prepping in the car. Talk with your roommate and either plan to help each other move in without extra helpers or come at different times with your families.

Check In: When you arrive at your residence hall, start by checking in with your Resident Director. They’ll give you your keys, information pertaining to your hall and any special instructions for moving in.

Health Protocols: Sanitation stations will be located throughout the residence halls and additional facilities management staff will be present to clean surfaces frequently throughout the day. Face coverings are required in all indoor common areas. You may remove them in your individual room when alone with your roommate or family. We will all do our best throughout the day to observe physical distancing of 6 feet between family groups while moving, with direction provided on traffic flow inside and outside of the buildings.

Parking & Unloading: Campus Housing Welcome Team members will be available to direct you to unloading zones and to answer questions. DO NOT pull into a handicap space, onto a sidewalk or into the fire lane. Please unload your vehicle promptly and move your vehicle to make space for the next round of move-in appointments. Just as you hope to have a parking place near your building to unload, so do other families moving in after you. Welcome Team members will direct you to an alternate parking area after you unload. Parking lots will return to their normal permit designation on Sunday evening.

Taking Care of Business: If you need to take care of any administrative items prior to classes beginning on Monday, Ouachita offices will be open on Thursday and Friday. However, please call or email before dropping by, as offices are seeking to minimize traffic to maintain physical distancing. For questions about your financial aid or student account, please contact Student Financial Services by phone, email or Zoom prior to coming to campus. Although in-office counseling will not be available during move-in, Student Financial Services will have a service window for your convenience if you need to finalize your payment.

Moving Tips:

  • Go minimalist this year and don’t bring unnecessary items or furniture. This will help your move go quickly and will help you keep your living space clean throughout the semester.
  • Bring your own carts or hand trucks/dollies for moving in large items.
  • Bring your own face covering.
  • Apartment Residents: Please be aware that there is limited parking at the apartment complexes, so be considerate of the number of vehicles you bring.
  • Apartment Residents: You will need to have your utilities on before you can move in.
