Ouachita to host Virginia Queen Piano Competition Feb. 7

Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will host its annual Virginia Queen Piano Competition on Friday, Feb. 7, at 3 p.m. The competition will be held in Ouachita’s McBeth Recital Hall in Mabee Fine Arts Center, and admission is free and open to the public.

Eight Ouachita students selected to perform in 2020 Arkansas Intercollegiate Band

Eight Ouachita Baptist University music students have been selected for the 2020 Arkansas Intercollegiate Band (AIB) and will attend the Arkansas Music Educators Convention Feb. 20-21, 2020, at the Hot Springs Convention Center.

Ouachita vocal studies students earn 12 finalist honors in Southern Region NATS auditions

November 19, 2019

Ouachita Baptist University music students earned 12 finalist honors at the 2019 National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Southern Region Conference and Student Auditions. More than 300 students from colleges in Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi attended the competition, which was held at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Ark., Nov. 6-9. Of all of those competing, 26 Ouachita students earned finalist or semifinalist honors.

Ouachita's Cross Brandon participates in Broadway Winds summer program in New York

Cross Brandon, a sophomore instrumental music education major from Little Rock, Ark., was one of 10 participants from around the country selected to study in the Broadway Winds intensive program.

Ouachita professors Dr. Mary Chung (on piano) and Dr. Carlos Feller (on flute) perform at the International Flute Workshop’s opening recital in Ferentino, Italy. Chung and Feller also taught private lessons, workshops and coached rehearsals for the festival, held May 15-21 in Roccasecca.

Dr. Mary Chung, assistant professor of music, and Dr. Carlos Feller, visiting assistant professor of music, appeared as guest recitalists and clinicians at the first International Flute Workshop held in Roccasecca, Italy.

Melissa Lee, a sophomore music major from Singapore, won first place in Ouachita Baptist University’s 2019 Virginia Queen Piano Competition on May 3.

Poon has performed in a multitude of countries across the world.

Division of Music to present annual PRISM instrumental concert April 29

Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will present its annual PRISM concert on April 29 at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Performing Arts Center. The concert, which is free and open to the public, will feature the Ouachita Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Percussion Ensemble and other various ensembles and soloists from Ouachita’s instrumental program.
