One thing every college student misses is the home-cooked food. The cafeteria is good for a quick (and free) meal, going out to eat can be expensive and $450 for Chick-fil-A money isn’t always enough to get you through a semester.
Don’t fret, because you are in luck. There are several simple recipes that can be cooked in your dorm room. This recipe for cheesy tortellini is one of my favorites to make. It can serve between 6-8 people, so you can enjoy it with some friends or have leftovers throughout the week.
For this recipe, all you will need is:
1.) Pour half of the pasta sauce into the bottom of the crockpot.
2.) Spread out half of the tortellini evenly on the top of the sauce.
3.) Sprinkle the garlic powder evenly on top of the tortellini.
4.) Spread out the two cups of mozzarella over the tortellini.
5.) Pour the remaining pasta sauce on top of cheese.
6.) Add the remaining tortellini on the top of the sauce.
7.) Spread out two more cups of mozzarella over the tortellini.
8.) Sprinkle the dried basil leaves on the cheese.
9.) Cover the crockpot and cook on high for an hour and a half or on low for three hours.
If you don’t have measuring tools, you can guestimate. This recipe may call for specific measurements, but it depends on personal taste. Having exact measurements does not matter in this recipe.
Dorm room cooking tip: Be careful when lifting the lid of the crockpot. The dorm rooms come with sensitive smoke detectors that may go off due to the crockpot’s steam. Once the food is done cooking, crack the lid to let the steam out slowly instead of all at once. This will limit the possibility of people having to evacuate the building. Your neighbors will appreciate this.
