Called to Teach Conference

WALKER CONFERENCE CENTER – OUACHITA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY
Hosted by Ouachita’s Huckabee School of Education, Called to Teach is a gathering for current teachers, former teachers, upcoming teachers and anyone interested in education. The conference will consist of various breakouts led by expert educators as well as a keynote address by Bethel Middle School (Bryant) Principal, Donaven Sims.
The theme this year is “Keeping the Joy.” Educators will celebrate their calling as teachers and learn from one another as they share creative ideas. Attendees also can receive 6 hours of professional development credit through the Arkansas Department of Education. A conference T-shirt, bag, and lunch are included in the price of the event. Additional details will be available in early summer.

9 a.m. – Welcome with Karli Saracini, Assistant Commissioner for ADE
10:15 a.m. – Morning Breakout Choices: Classroom Management, Champions for Christ, or Mentoring
11:30 a.m. – Lunch with Keynote Speaker and Roundtable Discussions
1:15 p.m. – Afternoon Breakout Choices: Jesus the Master Teacher, Morphology, or ChatGPT
Donaven Sims
Donaven Sims, principal at Bethel Middle School in Bryant, was named the 2022 Principal of the Year by the Arkansas Association of Elementary School Principals. A former teacher and coach, Sims was principal for seven years at Bryant’s Salem Elementary before moving to Bethel. Under his leadership, Salem was named a Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase School while consistently achieving recognition for student test performance and academic growth.
Sims and his wife Abby have three children: Carter, Claire and Caroline. They’re active members of their church, where Sims serves in the youth ministry as a small group leader of high school seniors.
