About
Ian Aipperspach serves as Lecturer of Music and Interim Conductor of Ouachita Singers. He brings
a wealth of experience serving as a choral conductor, music theater conductor, minister
and researcher.
At John Brown University, he served as the student conductor of the Cathedral Choir
and as conductor of the Chamber Choir. Southwestern Seminary provided the opportunity
to conduct selected pieces with Southwestern Singers and the Oratorio Chorus. Texas
Tech allowed Aipperspach to serve as the Graduate Assistant Conductor of the Madrigals
and the University Choir, the latter performed at Texas Music Educators Association
and Carnegie Hall.
Professional and educational engagements have allowed him to serve as a music director
for a number of musicals; serve as Artistic Director for the Carlsbad (NM) Community
Chorale; and Chorale Director for the Midland-Odessa (TX) Symphony & Chorale. He served
as interim Choral Director at South Plains College; led the Forte Music Theatre/Pop
Ensemble at Lubbock Christian University; and Assistant Conductor of the Concert Choir
at East Texas Baptist University. He also was a featured conductor with the Bassi
Brugnatelli Symposium in Italy, conducting excerpts from Mendelssohn’s Elijah and
opera arias.
He also served as a music director and production manager for Lubbock Moonlight Musicals.
Recently, he served as music director for OBU's production of Mary Poppins and stage
directed Disney's Newsies for the South Arkansas Arts Center. He has also concertized
abroad in Australia, Northern Ireland, Czechia, and Italy.
He also serves as Organist & Handbell Director at First Presbyterian Church in Hot
Springs.
Fun Facts
What do you like most about your field?
I love that all of us are learning something new in music. No matter how much we have
studied a score, we're always finding a new nugget to share with those around us.
I particularly love seeing the lightbulbs come on in students as they put puzzle pieces
together.
What is your go-to song, artist or snack?
I love desserts (both to make and eat) of any kind along with a nice refreshing Dr.
Pepper or cappuccino! I especially love Renaissance and Baroque music, so students
might hear me rocking out to an epic Bach piece (but one will also find me listening
to the best choral music out there).
If you were anything other than a professor, what would you be and why?
I would be in Sports Broadcasting. Put me in Ouachita Sports Network! I love sports
and visiting events when I can. I have attended 14 past and present Major League Baseball
ballparks and six Minor League ballparks plus the Melbourne Cricket Ground to see
a few Australian rules football matches.
What would you want a prospective student to know about your program or your administrative
area?
We are a family first and foremost. We will help you on your musical journey! We set
you up for success whether it be vocal, instrumental or in music theatre. We all love
what we do and pass on the joy to you!
