Biography
Kristin Grant serves as Assistant Professor of Music at Ouachita Baptist University and flute instructor
at the Arkansas School for Math, Sciences, and the Arts. She conducts the OBU Flute
Choir and the Hot Springs Flute Ensemble. She has presented masterclasses and led
flute choir performances at regional and national events, and under her direction,
the Arkansas Flute Society Flute Choir performed at the 2026 National Flute Association
convention in Atlanta, Ga.
An active chamber musician, Ms. Grant performs with the Trescendo Trio, South Winds,
and the Mockingbird Flute Quartet. She also performs with The Muses Creative Artistry
Project, based in Hot Springs, Ark. She is a former member of the Pine Bluff Symphony
Orchestra, and her solo performances have been broadcast on KUAR 91.5.
Ms. Grant received a Master of Music degree in flute performance from the University
of North Texas, where she studied with Terri Sundberg, and a Bachelor of Music degree
in flute performance from the University of Arizona, where she studied with Jean-Louis
Kashy. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Arkansas Flute Society, and she
is the creator of Fluter, an online learning community and educational platform for
flutists.

Why did you come to Ouachita?
Ouachita has the distinction of being an academic institution that feels like a supportive
home. There is an environment of students and faculty working together to pursue knowledge,
and to grow academically, personally and spiritually.
Why did you decide to become a professor?
Teaching is a passion and a calling for me. Helping students discover music and building
their skills is exciting! I feel extremely fortunate to be in this role.
Why is your subject an important one in our world?
Music can change how you feel. This is powerful. This is human. The creative expression,
communication and history we learn in the arts makes us more aware of ourselves and
our communities: local and world-wide.
What do you want future students to know about your degree program?
There is a place for you in the Ouachita School of Performing Arts! We have large
and small music ensembles in the instrumental music area, and scholarships are available
for music majors and nonmajors. I teach flute lessons and conduct the flute choir.

What do you like to do in your free time?
I enjoy spending time with my family, hiking the beautiful mountain trails in Arkansas
and making porcelain pottery in my home studio.

Romans 8:28 – "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who
love him, who have been called according to his purpose."
