About
Andrew D. Almand, Ph.D., CPA is an Associate Professor of Accounting and Analytics at Ouachita Baptist University
in Arkadelphia, Ark. Andy graduated from Henderson State University in 2002 with a
Bachelor of Administration in Accounting and in 2003 with a Master of Business Administration.
After five and a half years in public accounting, Andy began his academic career teaching
at Henderson State University. In August 2016, he graduated with a Ph.D. in Accountancy
from the University of Mississippi. Andy’s areas of research interest primarily related
to tax issues, but he also has interests in financial accounting research. His research
has been published in Advances in Accounting, Taxes: The Tax Magazine, State Tax Notes,
Accounting Historians Journal, and others. Andy's primary duty at OBU is to help the
Hickingbotham School of Business integrate data analytics into the business curriculum.
He is working toward implementing a plan while teaching data literacy courses. Andy
married his wife, Jennifer, in December 2003. They live in Arkadelphia with their
three children, Madilyn, age 14; Micah, age 11; and Matthew, age 8. Andy and his family
are active members in Park Hill Baptist Church in Arkadelphia where he serves as a
deacon and treasurer. In his spare time, Andy enjoys spending time with his family,
reading, making music, and kayaking.

Fun Facts
What do you like most about your field?
Accounting and Analytics are both extremely important! Additionally, they are both
REALLY fun! (Yes, I'm serious!) Both accounting and analytics remain exciting because
they're ever-changing and there is always more to learn. Additionally... since I'm
Andy Almand, an Academic in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, I like that they both begin with
the letter A!
Why did you enter the teaching profession?
My professors told me I should be an academic one day. I worked to get experience
and then applied for a one-year teaching position. I loved it! Helping students see
the importance of accounting and analytics and watching them "get it" is so rewarding!
What drew me to Ouachita was the Christian atmosphere and the overall respect that
everyone has for everyone else: students, staff, faculty, and administration alike!
What is your go-to song/artist/book/movie?
Songs and Artists - There are so many and it really depends on my mood.
There are so many books and movies... but..
Book(s) - Harry Potter Series
Movie(s) - Lord of the Rings Trilogy
If you were anything other than a professor, what would you be and why?
An actor. I love acting in plays and I think it would be so much fun to act in a movie
or TV show!
What would you want a prospective student to know about your program or your administrative
area?
We are diligently work to maintain - and continually improve! - what we teach and
how teach it to uphold and honor the excellence shown by the Hickingbotham School
and Ouachita Baptist for years. We stay connected to business news, we research business
issues that others haven't yet considered, and we attend conferences to learn new
developments in our fields.
