Tutoring Programs
We believe that learning happens best through relationship. The Elrod Center Tutoring programs connect Ouachita students with school students in our community for the purposes of academic help and mentorship. Ouachita students serve the same students and families throughout the course of the academic year. Meaningful relationships are forged and academic progress is made through these programs. Ouachita students can participate in Elrod Center Tutoring programs as volunteers or as work-study for those who are eligible.

America Reads has been one of the most rewarding experiences I've had here at Ouachita. It's such a wonderful thing to see kids grow, both in their reading skills and in life in general. I started America Reads hoping for an opportunity to make an impact in the lives of students, but I think they've made an even greater impact in my life!
– Peyton Hutchins, America Reads Tutor
The America Reads tutors are consistent and dedicated as they work with Perritt students individually. These tutors not only increase the students' reading scores, but positively impact their confidence and self-image, directly affecting their future school success.
– Sharon Kolb, Title I Facilitator, Perritt Primary School

Motivation is a big factor and many lack motivation because they find the work difficult, they don’t have anyone to help them at home, they don’t have anyone giving their undivided attention. So when our college students have come in to work with them, their motivation has skyrocketed. They want to get that work done. They look forward each week when the tutor comes back and they ask their teacher over and over again 'when is he coming?' or 'when is she coming?'
– Shannon Prince, Peake Facilitator
The kids I work with at Peake teach me as much or more than I teach them. They really enjoy learning and that makes me look forward to their futures. It is such a blessing to see them progress each week and the confidence it gives them.
– Matt Savage, Peake Partnership Tutor
