Our Mission

Mission Statement

The Department of Kinesiology is dedicated to developing the minds and bodies of men and women in preparing them to become servant leaders in professions related to fitness, health, teaching, recreation, sports and leisure activities. In this regard, the department is committed to diverse cultural, educational, scientific, and cross-disciplinary approaches that emphasize the total person. We support a broad multi-disciplinary integrative perspective that identifies health education, exercise, sport and skill acquisition as critical factors in preparing students to become healthy, knowledgeable, culturally sensitive, valued adult members of society.

Student Learning Outcomes

1. Foundational Knowledge

Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of human anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, motor control, and the components of wellness as they relate to movement and physical activity.

2. Application of Scientific Principles

Apply evidence-based practices and research methods to assess, analyze, and improve human performance and health outcomes.

3. Exercise Prescription & Programming

Design and implement safe and effective exercise and rehabilitation programs tailored to diverse populations, including athletes, older adults, individuals with disabilities, and individuals with chronic conditions.

4. Professional & Ethical Responsibility

Exhibit professionalism, ethical decision-making, and effective communication in various kinesiology-related careers, such as fitness training, rehabilitation, and sports performance.

5. Health Promotion & Disease Prevention

Develop and advocate for programs that promote physical activity, wellness, and disease prevention in community and clinical settings.
