RECENT NEWS
CAITLIN JONES PERFORMS WORLD PREMIERE Dr. Caitlin Jones (Lee University) was on campus in October to present a percussion
masterclass and perform a solo percussion recital, which included pieces for marimba,
vibraphone, and snare drum with electronics. The main event was the world premiere
of The Long Road by Andy Harnsberger, a marimba solo she commissioned during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Jones earned degrees from the University of Florida, Lee University, and the University
of South Carolina. She teaches percussion at Lee University and Southern Adventist
University in Tennessee and has performed with numerous orchestras, the Sacramento
Mandarins Drum and Bugle Corps, and was noted as an “Emerging Leader” by the Percussive
Arts Society.
TOM BURRITT TO PERFORM WITH OBU PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE Dr. Tom Burritt (University of Texas-Austin) will be on campus in November to present a percussion clinic and perform with the OBU Percussion Ensemble. Dr. Burritt received degrees from Ithaca College, Kent State University, and Northwestern University and has a terrific reputation for performing chamber music and solo percussion music. Dr. Burritt has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Stevens Marimba Seminar, and the Zeltsman Marimba Festival. Dr. Burritt's clinic is made possible by support from the OBU School of Fine Arts, Majestic Percussion, Sabian Cymbals, Innovative Percussion, Remo, Beetle Percussion, and Grover Pro Percussion.
