  SIX GUEST ARTISTS AT OBU

 This spring, six world-class guest artists will be on campus presenting concerts and working with our students at OBU. Bill Shaltis (University of Memphis) will present a timpani recital and clinic showcasing new works for timpani and digital media; the Spiral Staircase Duo (Eric Hessel, horn and Mai Tadokoru Hessel, marimba) will present a masterclass and concert that includes a world premiere composition; and Dr. Jonathan Singer (New York City) will present a ragtime xylophone clinic that will feature his incredible talent and historical knowledge of the genre.




 

DR. SCOTT HERRING TO PERFORM WITH THE OBU PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE

Dr. Scott Herring, Director of Percussion at the University of South Carolina, will be on campus April 3-4 to present a concert percussion clinic and perform with the OBU Percussion Ensemble. Dr. Herring will perform Shadow Chasers, a marimba solo with percussion septet by Michael Burritt. At the University of South Carolina, Dr. Herring directs the USC Percussion Ensemble and USC Steel Band, Palmetto Pans, and he performs with the critically-acclaimed RoseWind Duo with Dr. Clifford Leaman, Sympatico percussion quintet, and the Shiraz Trio. Dr. Herring's clinic is made possible by support from the OBU School of Fine Arts, Malletech instruments and mallets, Zildjian cymbals, Remo drumheads, and Grover Pro Percussion.

  


 

GUEST ARTIST FROM TRINIDAD TO PERFORM WITH THE OBU STEEL BANDS

Dr. Jeannine Remy (University of the West Indies-St. Augustine) will be on campus April 30-31 to work with all three OBU Steel Bands and perform on the Steel Bands concert. A native of Wisconsin, Dr. Remy earned degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Arizona before moving to the Caribbean dual-island republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Dr. Remy is known as a worldwide authority on steel pans, and her compositions and arrangements for steel pan groups have won numerous prestigious awards. During her time in Trinidad and Tobago, she became the first foreign female to arrange music for large steel pan ensembles. Dr. Remy's clinic is made possible by support from the OBU School of Fine Arts and Sabian cymbals.
