Why I Chose a Christian MBA

Finding Faith-Based Business Education at Ouachita

Christ-Centered MBA at OuachitaAugust 07, 2025 - Vanessa Perez

Yesterday was officially my last day of class, and as I traveled home from a trip to Santa Fe with my Ouachita MBA cohort, I couldn’t help but reflect on what a wonderful year it's been.

Ten years ago, as I was finishing my undergraduate degree, I was already dreaming about pursuing a master’s degree, wondering which university I’d attend, how challenging it would be, and what the experience might look like. But life took me in a different direction. I moved to a new country, not knowing a single person or speaking the language, and that dream had to wait.

Last year, I finally felt it was time to chase that dream again, and from the very beginning, I saw God’s hand in every step. As I searched for programs, one in particular stood out: a Christ-centered MBA. It was something I hadn’t seen in any other program. I submitted my application to Ouachita Baptist University's MBA program, not knowing it would mark the beginning of a journey I’ll always treasure.

Ouachita's Christian MBA program taught me that faith and business don’t have to exist separately — that it’s possible to integrate both with purpose and integrity.

Ouachita had everything I was looking for. It was a 12-month online MBA program — a big plus since I wasn’t sure I could commit to something longer. The fully online format was incredibly convenient since the university is in a different state. The curriculum included all the courses I knew would help me grow and succeed in my career. And from the very beginning, even without any prior connection to the university, I felt welcomed and supported.

Ouachita's Christian MBA program taught me that faith and business don’t have to exist separately — that it’s possible to integrate both with purpose and integrity. Over the past year, I’ve learned practical skills I'm excited to apply in my career and gained new perspectives that have shaped my leadership style. Every class and professor left a lasting impact, and I’m so grateful to have been part of such a meaningful and transformative program.

I had the privilege of sharing this experience with a wonderful cohort and learning so much from their unique perspectives and journeys. Our trip to Santa Fe was the perfect way to close this chapter, giving us the chance to spend meaningful time together and reflect on everything we’ve accomplished.

I’m walking away with more than just a degree. I’m leaving with clarity, courage, meaningful connections and unforgettable memories — and for that, my heart will forever be content and grateful.
