Dodds to present senior piano recital at Ouachita Nov. 14
November 07, 2019 - Madison Cresswell
Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will host Isabel Dodds in her senior recital on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m. in McBeth Recital Hall. The recital is free and open to the public.
Dodds, a senior piano performance major from Leslie, Ark., received second place in Ouachita’s Virginia Queen Piano Competition in 2018 and is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda national music honor society. Dodds is a student of Dr. Lei Cai, Ouachita professor of music.
“All of my professors here at Ouachita have been very encouraging and have worked extra hard to help me fill in areas that I was lacking in skill or knowledge,” Dodds said. “Because of them, I have made it to my senior year, and I am able to play repertoire that would have been impossible when I started studying here. This recital reflects all the support and training that I have received.”
Dodds will begin her recital with “Sinfonia,” a movement from Johann Sebastian Bach’s Partita No. 2 in C Minor, followed by “Oiseaux tristes,” a movement from Maurice Ravel’s Miroirs. Next, she will perform “Andante con variazioni,” a movement from Ludwig van Beethoven’s Sonata in A flat Major, Op. 26 and the movements “Allegretto” and “Allegro Molto” from Samuel Barber’s Excursions, Op. 20. To conclude, Dodds will perform Samuel Barber’s Nocturne, Op. 33 and Franz Liszt’s Hungarian Fantasy.
