Barger to perform senior French horn recital Sept. 24
September 17, 2021 - Julia Shands
Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will host Holli Barger in her senior French horn recital Friday, Sept. 24, at 11 a.m. in McBeth Recital Hall.
Barger, a music education major from Carrollton, Texas, is a member of Alpha Chi National College Honor Society, Pi Kappa Lambda, Kappa Delta Pi and the Ouachita President’s Leadership Circle. She is the 2019 Ouachita Concerto Competition winner and placed third in the 2020 competition. She received the 2020-2021 Academic Achiever Award for the School of Fine Arts and is the 2020 Presser Foundation Scholar. Barger has held first chair in the Arkansas Intercollegiate Band since 2018 and is the drum major for the Ouachita Marching Band.
“My recital is composed of works all from the 20th century that have vastly expanded my musical capabilities,” Barger said. “My senior recital is the culmination of all the work I've put into becoming the musician I am today. It is a time to express my love for music and a time to share that music with friends and family.”
Barger will open her recital with “Alla Caccia” by Alan Abbott, then follow with “Blues and Variations For Monk” by David Amram and three movements from “Sonata” by Halsey Stevens: “Allegro Moderto,” “Poco Adagio” and “Allegro.”
“I am most excited to share all of the dedicated work I've put into preparing for this recital,” Barger said. “I can't wait to be able to show how much I've grown as a musician over the past four years and to be able to do what I love.”
Barger will be accompanied on piano by Susan Monroe, Ouachita staff accompanist, and has been instructed by Alexis Sczepanik, adjunct lecturer in music.
