Ouachita’s Department of Theatre Arts presents “Into the Breeches!”

Verser Theatre at Ouachita Baptist UniversitySeptember 16, 2021 - Emma Dennis and Landon Denman

Ouachita Baptist University’s Department of Theatre Arts will present George Brant’s “Into the Breeches!” Thursday-Monday, Sept. 23-27, in Verser Theatre. Performances will be held Thursday-Saturday and Monday at 7:30 p.m., with a matinée performance on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Set in 1942, “Into the Breeches!” tells the story of what happens when the crew and leading actors of the Oberon Play House go to fight in World War II. Instead of shutting down the playhouse for the season, the director’s wife plans a production of Shakespeare’s “Henriad”—a combination of “Henry IV” and “Henry V”—with an all-female cast.

“Through collaboration and persistence, she assembles an unlikely cast to battle the slings and arrows of the time,” said director Matthew Murry, visiting assistant professor of theatre arts. “Together, they deliver a celebration of humor and heart.”

He added that “’Into the Breeches!’ focuses on connection, acceptance and growth. It balances the lighter and heavier moments of life in a well-crafted story. If you're looking for laughter and a cathartic release, look no further!”

Tickets cost $10 and are available to buy at www.obu.edu/boxoffice, or weekdays from 1-5 p.m. at the Ouachita box office. Ouachita students may receive one free ticket upon presentation of their student ID at the box office. Seats are open at half capacity with masks required for all attendees. For more information, call the box office at (870) 245-5555.
