“As I approach my senior recital, it all feels so unreal,” said Brown, a choral music education major from Texarkana, Ark. “I’ve titled the program ‘On This Journey’ from a part of a lyric in my recital. I have learned so much from my professors, friends and family on my journey through Ouachita and life in general. I’m thankful that God has placed me here, and I can’t wait to display how I’ve grown on Oct. 15.”

At Ouachita, Brown has been named to the President’s List and was awarded the Dr. William Trantham Endowed Music Scholarship. She is a student choral director in the School of Fine Arts and is a member of the Carl Goodson Honors Program, Alpha Chi national college honor society, Kappa Delta Pi honor society for education and the President’s Leadership Circle.

During her recital, Brown will perform “Journey to the Past” from “Anastasia” by Stephen Flaherty; “Poor Wandering One” from “The Pirates of Penzance” by William Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan; “Va godendo” from the Italian opera “Serse” by George Frideric Handel; “La pastorella delle Alpi” by Gioachino Rossini; Robert Schumann’s “Waldegespräch” from “Liederkreis, Op. 39” and “Der Nußbaum” from “Myrthen, Op. 25”; “Dirge” and “Spring” from Dominick Argento’s “Six Elizabethan Songs”; and “Chacun le sait” from “La Fille du Régiment” by Gaetano Donizetti.

Brown’s principal applied instructor at Ouachita is Dr. Margaret Garrett, professor of music. She will be accompanied by pianist Kristen La Madrid, Ouachita staff accompanist.
