Ouachita Baptist University will present the Ouachita Women’s Chorus and Ouachita Singers in concert Tuesday, Oct. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in McBeth Recital Hall. The concert is free for students and the public.

Both choirs will perform songs based on the themes of faith, joy, hope and imagination.

“We have really wonderful students in Ouachita Singers and Women’s Chorus this fall who have worked very hard to prepare a diverse set of selections from composers throughout history,” said Dr. Joshua Brown, director of choral activities and chair of the Department of Music Education. “We can’t wait to share our music with the larger Ouachita community.”

Brown serves as director of Ouachita Singers. For the concert, the group will be assisted on piano by Dr. Mary Chung, associate professor of music. The Ouachita Women’s Chorus is directed by Dr. Natilan Crutcher, visiting assistant professor of music, with Ouachita staff accompanist Kristen La Madrid on piano; Chloe Spraggins, a junior music and graphic design double major from Hot Springs, Ark., on the frame drum; and Destiny Diaz, a senior music education major from Ontario, Calif., on the flute.

“Our students work very hard to put this program together and share their love of music with you,” Dr. Crutcher explained. “Their love of music helps bring this program to life and make it a truly remarkable experience for the audience."

Women’s Chorus will perform “The Moon is Distant from the Sea” by David N. Childs; “South Sami People” by Frode Fjellheim; “Sing Alleluia!” by Victor C. Johnson; Charles Wesley’s “Oh How He Loves You and Me,” arranged by John Purifoy; and “Glow” by Eric Whitacre.

Ouachita Singers will perform "I’ll Be On My Way" by Shawn Kirchner; "Geistliches Lied" by Johannes Brahms; "Sing Out My Soul" by Marques L.A. Garrett; "Pure Imagination" by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley, arranged by Matthew D. Nielsen; and "Cantate Domino" by Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck.
