Ouachita’s Jazz Band to perform fall concert Nov. 16

Ouachita Baptist University’s Jazz Band will perform its fall concert Tuesday, Nov. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Performing Arts Center. The performance is free and open to the public; masks are required inside the auditorium.

“I just love sharing great music with my students and the audience. It is so nice to be able to have live music at Ouachita,” said conductor Jim Lloyd, instructor of music and athletic band director at Ouachita. “Jazz music is fun! Especially when you attend a live concert.”

The pieces performed include “Artistry in Rhythm” by Stan Kenton and arranged by Paul Murtha, “Besame Mucho” by Consuelo Velazquez and arranged by Rick Stitzel, “Theme from ‘The Summer of ‘42’” by Michael Legrand and arranged by Tommy Newsom, “Spain” by Chick Corea and arranged by Paul Jennings, “Opus De Funk” by Horace Silver and arranged by Chuck Israels, “Garaje Gato” by Gordon Goodwin, “The Days of Wine and Roses” by Henrry Mancini and arranged by Mike Lewis, “Pharaoh’s Funk” by Erik Sherburne, “You’ve Got A Friend In Me” by Randy Newman and arranged by Mark Taylor and “Africa” by David Paich and Jeff Porcaro and arranged by Ralph Ford.

Alto—Elizabeth Worden, a sophomore instrumental music education major from Blossom, Texas

Tenor—Graham Scarborough, a junior instrumental music education major from Ruston, La., and Dalton Lunday, a freshman psychology major from Harleton, Texas

Baritone—Jaelen Becho, a freshman kinesiology and leisure studies/pre-professional studies major from San Antonio, Texas

 

TROMBONE:

Will Gordey, a freshman instrumental music education major from Alexander, Ark.

Tyler Hancock, a freshman instrumental music education major from Alexander, Ark.

Nate Carroll, a freshman physics and biology double major from Benton, Ark.

Dakota Furr, a freshman history and secondary education double major from Harrison, Ark.

 

TRUMPET:

Camryn Manning, a sophomore biomedical sciences major from Russellville, Ark.

Josh York, a junior Christian studies/Biblical studies and Christian ministries double major from Texarkana, Texas

Andrew Martin, a freshman business administration major from Port Neches, Texas

Sam Spraggins, a freshman chemistry major from Hot Springs, Ark.

 

RHYTHM:

Piano—Craig Crawford, a senior instrumental music performance major from Texarkana, Texas

Bass—Josh York and Jacob Emmons, a freshman worship arts major from Cabot, Ark.

Guitar—Lloyd Hassell, a senior music industry major from Scroggins, Texas

Drums—Braden Crawley, a senior computer science and music double major from Jonesboro, Ark.
