Ouachita Stories

The Division of Music in Ouachita Baptist University’s School of Fine Arts will present Amaya Hardin and Brandon Holloway in their sophomore voice recitals Friday, March 31, at 2 p.m. in McBeth Recital Hall.

At Ouachita, Hardin is a musical theatre major and a member of the Alpha Psi Omega national theatre honor society; she also was a 2022 Tiger Tunes hostess. In 2021, she was one of 15 students awarded the National High School Heart of the Arts Award from the National Federation of State High School Associations.

During her recital, Hardin will perform “A Little Girl from Little Rock” from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes by Jule Styne and Leo Robin; “Come What May” from Moulin Rouge by David Baerwald and Kevin Gilbert; Act I, Scene IV from Almost, Maine by John Cariani; and “Love Will Come and Find Me Again” from Bandstand by Richard Oberacker.

Hardin’s collaborative pianist will be Dr. Ian Aipperspach, adjunct lecturer in music at Ouachita. Mac Ricks, a sophomore musical theatre major from Carlisle, Ark., will assist Hardin in performing “Come What May” and the scene from Almost, Maine.

Holloway is a vocal performance major at Ouachita, where he has been named to the Dean’s List and was a 2022 Tiger Tunes host.

During his recital, he will perform “Black is the Color of My True Love’s Hair” by John Jacob Niles, “Drink to Me Only with Thine Eyes” by Roger Quilter, “Si mes vers avaient des ailes” by Reynaldo Hahn, “Still wie die Nacht” by Carl Bohm and “O, del mio dolce ardor” by Christoph Willibald Gluck.

Holloway will be joined by Ouachita collaborative pianist Susan Monroe.

Hardin and Holloway’s principal applied instructor is Dr. Natilan Crutcher, visiting assistant professor of music at Ouachita. Hardin is also a student of Dr. Scott Holsclaw, professor emeritus of theatre arts.
