Sarah Huckabee Sanders returns to alma mater for lecture March 2
February 10, 2020Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia announced today that Sarah Huckabee Sanders will speak on March 2 as part of the university’s Birkett Williams Lecture Series. The lecture will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Performing Arts Center on Ouachita’s campus.

Ouachita to host "More Than History, More Than Land" photography exhibit through Dec. 6
October 28, 2019Ouachita Baptist University’s Rosemary Adams Department of Art and Design and Rogers Department of Communications are co-hosting the exhibit "More Than History, More Than Land," photographed by Chris Ocken, through Friday, Dec. 6, in the Hammons Gallery located in Mabee Fine Arts Center.
A few years ago, sitting in Evans Student Center, I overheard someone say, “It’s a lot easier to live the life of your dreams than you think.” This idea set me free and opened a whole world that dared me to dream big and work harder. This summer I got to live my dream job: I was a videography intern for a nonprofit’s cross-country bike adventure.
If you’ve kept up with Ouachita lately, you’ve likely glimpsed at different Ouachita photos taken by graduates Tyler Rosenthal (’15), Andy Henderson (’18) and Alex Blankenship (’19). Among the three, they have captured 15 years of life at Ouachita.

Alumni profile: Mitch Bettis ('90) Problem-solver, people-builder
May 15, 2019In seventh grade, Mitch Bettis discovered the world of publications as a paper boy for Arkadelphia’s newspaper, the Siftings-Herald. “I loved everything about it,” Bettis said. “I loved the fact that, a couple of hours ago, there was nothing. Now, there were words and photos; it was a tangible product.” As president and CEO of Arkansas Business Publishing Group (ABPG) in Little Rock, Bettis directs the creation and sales efforts of more than 30 of Arkansas’ top weekly, monthly, semiannual and annual publications.
Bill Downs didn’t always tell the truth. I have proof of it. In 2004, Downs wrote a book called “The Fighting Tigers: The Untold Stories Behind the Names on the Ouachita Baptist University World War II Memorial." I asked him to autograph the book for me in December of that year, and this is what he wrote: “To Rex Nelson, the only OBU student I have ever had who wrote so beautifully that I never found anything to correct.”
Ouachita students earn four of seven top awards in 2019 ACMA competition
