Ouachita hosts art exhibit by Louisiana College professor
November 13, 2008 - Adam Wheat
Rondall Reynoso, assistant professor of art, art department coordinator and Weathersby
Fine Arts Building Gallery director at Louisiana College in Pineville, La., will be
exhibiting a portion of his artwork in Ouachita Baptist University’s Hammons Gallery.
The show will run from Nov. 17 through Dec. 12, and Reynoso will discuss his work
in the gallery at 10 a.m. on Nov. 17.
Donnie Copeland, assistant professor of Art and Design at Ouachita, said he first
met Reynoso when he visited Ouachita to observe its art department and then again
at the annual College Art Association conference. More recently, Copeland had the
opportunity to visit Reynoso and his studio in Pineville.
“His use of layered pastel and acrylic are an unexpected combination of material resulting
in work that begs us to pay closer attention,” Copeland said.
Reynoso’s work has been shown nationally in more than 30 exhibitions including such
venues as the Pamela Skinner/Gwenna Howard Contemporary Art in Sacramento, Calif.,
the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Williamsburg Art & Historical Society and the River
Oaks Art Center in Louisiana. His work also has been exhibited at prestigious academic
institutions including the Pratt Institute, Parsons School of Design and Kingsborough
College.
“We are excited about his interest in showing at Ouachita,” said Copeland. “Having
his work here and having him speak will give students unique insight into the creative
activity and process of an artist and fellow academic who exhibits regularly.”
