Final fall commencement set for December 20

December 15, 2008 - Brooke Showalter

A total of 80 graduates are set to participate in Ouachita Baptist University’s final fall commencement service on Dec. 20 at 10 a.m. in Jones Performing Arts Center. A reception in Walker Conference Center will be held immediately following the ceremony to honor graduates and their guests.

For more than 100 years, OBU held only one commencement ceremony each year. In 1999, a second ceremony was added in the fall to relieve crowding of the spring ceremony. Last year’s change of venue to an outdoor spring commencement eliminated the crowding problem, allowing a return to a single ceremony.

“We are merely returning to our longstanding tradition of having only one ceremony per year,” said Judy Jones, OBU registrar and director of admissions.

In the future, fall graduates will be invited to take part in the spring commencement ceremony.

Those unable to attend the ceremony can watch a recording of the ceremony posted on Ouachita’s website at http://obu.edu/broadcast/.
