OBU’s counseling services hosts “Handling Conflict Well” seminar

February 23, 2009 - Brooke Showalter

Ouachita Baptist University’s counseling services will host a “Handling Conflict Well” seminar for OBU faculty, staff and students and their family members on Thursday, March 5, at 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Hickingbotham Hall’s Young Auditorium.

Dan Jarboe, OBU’s university counselor, will lead this free event designed “to help others understand and avoid the most common, destructive mistakes we make amidst conflict and to help us all see the benefits that conflict can bring to our relationships and personal growth if we can respond in helpful ways.”

The seminar will include lecture, discussion, video, drama and humor to offer practical help for better navigating through conflict.

Jarboe said he hopes to offer participants “an understanding of what people want most and how this need must guide how we respond to others.”

“The practical tools presented will be immediately useful to those seeking to improve their family relationships, marriages, close friendships and work interactions,” Jarboe noted. “The principles discussed will also challenge leaders to consider carefully how they respond to the mistakes or failures of those subordinate to them.”

This event is free and requires no reservation, but seating is limited.
