School of Fine Arts to present woodwind ensemble concert Oct. 20

The Ouachita Baptist University School of Fine Arts will feature a woodwind ensemble concert on Oct. 20. The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital Hall on Ouachita’s campus and is free to the public. 

Ouachita’s Flute Choir, Clarinet Ensemble, Woodwind Quintet, Saxophone Orchestra and Bassoon Quintet will present a variety of chamber music.

The Flute Choir, conducted by Kristin Grant, OBU instructor of music, includes the following students: Aubrey Elliot, a sophomore instrumental music education major from Bentonville, Ark.; Alex Goff, a sophomore music theory and composition major from Nashville, Ark.; Brandi Hull, a sophomore instrumental music education major from Longview, Texas; Lydia Jahner, a freshman instrumental music education and theory and composition double-major from Knoxville, Iowa; Kathryn Lee, a freshman instrumental music education major from Azle, Texas; Kristin Penn, a sophomore music and psychology double-major from Arkadelphia, Ark.; Elyse Senteney, a freshman instrumental music education major from Plano, Texas; and Grace Thomas, a freshman music theory and composition major from Bryant, Ark.

The Clarinet Ensemble, led by Heather Bynum, OBU instructor of music, features Brooke Baker, a sophomore choral music education major from Swansea, Ill.; Erin Edge, a freshman instrumental music education major from Southaven, Miss.; Sarah Greeson, a junior English major from Hot Springs, Ark.; Nina Sari, a freshman music major from Jakarta, Indonesia; and Anastasia Waymire, a freshman biology major from Wynne, Ark.

Bynum will also direct the Woodwind Quintet consisting of Aubrey Elliot, a sophomore instrumental music education major from Bentonville, Ark., on flute; Ruthie Stoner, a freshman performance and business administration/management double-major from McKinney, Texas, on clarinet; Rebecca Seago, a senior choral music education major from Powell, Wyo., on oboe; Jonathan Stockman, a senior English major from Fayette, Ala., on bassoon, and Kelsey Bates, a sophomore instrumental music education major from Marion, Ark., on French horn.

Caroline Taylor, OBU professor of music, will conduct the Ouachita Saxophone Orchestra. Students in this ensemble include: John Ashburn, a junior instrumental music education major from Monroe, La.; Allan Bateman, a freshman music theory and composition major from Perryville, Ark.; Marshal Butler, a freshman biology major from Cabot, Ark.; Emily Duncan, a senior instrumental music education major from Marion, Ark.; Alex Goff, a sophomore instrumental music theory and composition major from Nashville, Ark.; Jordan Henry, a senior instrumental music education major from Greenbrier, Ark.; Alissa Hill, a junior instrumental music education major from Bella Vista, Ark.; Bradley Lindsey, a freshman instrumental music education major from Longview, Texas; Brian Matney, a junior instrumental music education major from Gravette, Ark.; and Cyrus Morris, a sophomore instrumental music education major from Katy, Texas.

Taylor will also conduct the Ouachita Bassoon Quintet and Saxophone Quartet. The Bassoon Quintet includes: Darlene Seal, a senior Christian Missions and Biblical studies major from Bryant, Ark.; Jonathan Stockman, a senior English major from Fayette, Ala.; Paul Huenefeld, a sophomore church music major from Pine Bluff, Ark.; C.J. Santiago, a freshman music major from Little Rock, Ark.; and Michael Curtis, a freshman instrumental music education major from Wylie, Texas. The Saxophone Quartet includes Alex Goff on soprano saxophone, Alissa Hill on alto saxophone, John Ashburn on tenor saxophone and Brian Matney on baritone saxophone.
