Students to present musical theatre choreography showcase Nov. 23

Ouachita Baptist University’s department of fine arts will present a musical theatre choreography showcase on Nov. 23 at 4 p.m. in Verser Theatre on Ouachita’s campus.  The students currently enrolled in the musical theatre choreography course will informally present the 13 musical theatre works that they have been preparing throughout the semester. The event is free and open to the public.

“Twenty-five students will present their joint projects to an audience as well as for adjudication and feedback,” said Jennifer Maddox, adjunct instructor of dance at OBU. Maddox is the instructor for the course, and she serves as the students’ creative mentor.

“I am very proud of our talented students this semester as they have shown commitment and creativity,” Maddox said.

The students will perform student–choreographed selections including: “Transylvania Mania” from Young Frankenstein, “Footloose” from Footloose, “Too Darn Hot” from Kiss Me Kate, “Rhythm In Me” from Alter Boyz, “The Way You Are” from Movin’ Out, “Fosse’s World” from Fosse, “Easy Street” from Annie, “Cell Block Tango” from Chicago, “Rhythm of Life” from Sweet Charity, “Trashin’ the Camp” from Tarzan, “Seize the Day” from Newsies, “Broadway Rhythm” from Singing in the Rain and “Hair” from Hair.

Students featured in the showcase include: Heather Baker, a senior musical theatre major from Cleburne, Texas; Taylor Bass, a sophomore musical theatre major from Houston, Texas; Haley Broadaway, a senior musical theatre major from Jonesboro, Ark.; Molly Brown, a junior musical theatre major from Rowlett, Texas; Lauren Casteel, a junior musical theatre major from Garland, Texas; Daniel Collier, a senior musical theatre major from North Little Rock, Ark.; Cortnie DeVore, a junior musical theatre major from Beebe, Ark.; Cessany Ford, a junior musical theatre major from Paragould, Ark.; Lindsey Forga, a senior mass communications major from Arkadelphia, Ark.; Kyle Huey, a senior musical theatre major from Grapevine, Texas; Krysteena Koiner, a senior musical theatre major from Azle, Texas; Michael Krikorian, a senior musical theatre major from Rockwall, Texas; Jody Lee, a senior musical theatre major from Arlington, Texas; Steven Miller, a junior theatre arts major from Westminster, S.C.; Sam Parrish, a senior musical theatre major from Forney, Texas; Ashley Partridge, a junior musical theatre major from Baton Rouge, La.; Jeff Stokes, a senior theatre arts major from Gilmer, Texas; Rachel Street, a senior musical theatre major from Mahomet, Ill.; Lynley Vire, a junior musical theatre major from Searcy, Ark.; Jacob Watson, a junior musical theatre major from Wynne, Ark.; and Becca Watts, a junior mass communications major from Smackover, Ark.
