Newly elected class officers join OBU Student Senate

Ouachita Baptist University’s Student Senate recently held elections to name class
officers for the 2011-2012 school year.
“The goal of Student Senate is to serve as the voice of the student body,” said Student
Senate President Jacob Lively. “Senate exists to serve the students by listening to
their concerns and communicating those opinions to the right people. Additionally,
Senate assists organizations on campus by providing them with financial assistance
to carry out an event or a project.”
Newly elected senior class president Nolan West explained why he wanted to serve on
Student Senate, saying, “All of my life I've been encouraged to participate in government,
and I've been interested in public service for quite some time. I wanted to gain some
firsthand executive experience and help serve my fellow classmates in a behind-the-scenes
role.”
The executive committee, elected in the spring of 2011, includes Jacob Lively, a senior
biology major from Queen City, Texas, as president; John Williams, a senior business
administration and management major from Little Rock, Ark., as internal vice president;
Aaren Crews, a senior early childhood education major from Arkadelphia, Ark., as external
vice president; Katelyn Smith, a senior dietetics and nutrition major from Longview,
Ark., as secretary; and Hope Freel, a senior communication sciences and disorders
major from Nashville, Ark., as treasurer.
Filling Senate’s four at-large positions are Tanner Huffman, a senior mass communications
major from Wynne, Ark.; Amanda Seeley, a senior Biblical studies major from Garland,
Texas; Elizabeth Burke, a senior biology major from Hot Springs, Ark.; and Taurus
Williams, a senior athletic training major from West Memphis, Ark.
Senior class officers include: Nolan West, a biology major from Bolivar, Mo., as president;
Alyssa Wylie, a communication sciences and disorders major from Henderson, Texas,
as vice president; and Emily Vinson, a business administration and finance major from
Corning, Ark., as treasurer. Chris Sumner, an instrumental music education major from
Needville, Texas, fills position one. Amy Harrington, an English major from Prattsville,
Ark., fills position two. Kristen Vaughan, a Christian missions major from Little
Rock, Ark., fills position three. Chelsea Holstead, an early childhood education major
from Morrilton, Ark., fills position four.
Junior class officers include: Patrick Krauss, a business administration and management
major from Plano, Texas, as president; MyLisa Speer, a communication sciences and
disorders major from Texarkana, Texas, as vice president; Hannah Bishop, a mass communications
major from Conway, Ark., as secretary; and Samantha Street, an accounting major from
Rogers, Ark., as treasurer. Stephanie Hampton, a mass communications major from Perryville,
Ark., fills position one. Daniel Johnson, an accounting major from Sherwood, Ark.,
fills position two. Kurt Bannert, a psychology major from Hamilton, Texas, fills position
three. Devan Malone, a speech communication major from Benton, Ark., fills position
four.
Sophomore class officers include: Justin Young, a business administration and management
major from Springdale, Ark., as president; Buck Schroeder, an accounting major from
Conway, Ark., as vice president; Sara Huneycutt, a biology major from Arkadelphia,
Ark., as secretary; and Barrett Burger, a biology major from Camden, Ark., as treasurer.
Sarah Bishop, a chemistry major from Paron, Ark., fills position one. Rebekah Ward,
a biology major from Little Rock, Ark., fills position two. Lindsey Fowler, a political
science major from Arkadelphia, Ark., fills position three. Jacob Catlett, a Biblical
studies major from Malvern, Ark., fills position four.
Freshman class officers include: Beau Daggett, a business administration and management
major from Roland, Ark., as president; Max Embury, a biology major from Cary, N.C.,
as vice president; Ashley Bullington, a music major from Woodstock, Ga., as secretary;
and Abbey Fowler, from Arkadelphia, Ark., as treasurer. Gracie Lundstrum, a mass communications
major from Springdale, Ark., fills position one. Ellen Flint, a history major from
Arlington, Texas, fills position two. Aly Smith, a mass communications major from
Sherwood, Ark., fills position three. Taylor Wentz, a communication sciences and disorders
major from Little Rock, Ark., fills position four.
