Ouachita Baptist University Jazz Band to perform Nov. 21

The Ouachita Baptist University Jazz Band will perform on Monday, Nov. 21, at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Performing Arts Center under the direction of Dr. Craig Hamilton, OBU’s Lena Goodwin Trimble Professor of Music and director of bands. The concert is free and open to the public.

The concert will feature a variety of jazz styles from swing to latin to funk. “We have something for everyone on this concert,” Hamilton said.

The Jazz Band will perform “Count Bubba” by Gordon Goodwin; “Blue Bossa,” arranged by Mark Taylor; “A Child Is Born,” arranged by Paul Jennings; “A Beautiful Friendship,” arranged by Sammy Nestico; and “The Look of Love,” also arranged by Taylor.

The concert will continue with “No More Blues,” arranged by Bob Lowden; “Blue Moon,” arranged by Victor Lopez; “Dat Dere,” arranged by Erik Morales; “What Is This Thing Called Love,” arranged by Craig Skeffington; and “My Little Suede Shoes,” arranged by Rich Sigler. The band will close the show with “No Spring Chicken” by Kris Berg.

Soloists include: Deborah Caldwell, a senior instrumental music education major from Siloam Springs, Ark.; Michael Curtis, a junior music performance major from Wylie, Texas; Alex Goff, a senior instrumental music education major from Nashville, Ark.; Taylor Lamb, a junior Biblical studies and Biblical languages major from Conway, Ark.; Bradley Lindsey, a junior instrumental music education major from Longview, Texas; Brent Nessler, a sophomore instrumental music education major from Rowlett, Texas; James Norton, a sophomore music major from Texarkana, Texas; Bret Steed, a sophomore music performance major from Idabel, Okla.; and Zach Zucha, a sophomore business administration/finance major from Sachse, Texas.

Vocal soloist Grace Johnson, a senior vocal performance major from Tyler, Texas, will also be featured on two selections.
