Ouachita to host Baltzley and Brackett in sophomore recitals March 16

Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will host Gabi Baltzley and Brooke Brackett in their sophomore musical theatre recitals March 16 at 11 a.m. The recitals, which are free and open to the public, will be held in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital Hall.

Baltzley, a Little Rock native and graduate of Parkview Magnet High School, has been a member of OBU’s Concert Choir and Women’s Chorus and has been named a state semi-finalist in the National Association of Teachers of Singing auditions. She has also appeared in Ouachita’s theatre productions as Sarah Nancy in Blind Date, Polhemus in Waiting and as a chorus member in Bye, Bye Birdie and Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr. She will play Kitty in OBU’s upcoming production of The Drowsy Chaperone.

Baltzley will perform Andrew Lippa’s “My New Philosophy” from You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, followed by Leonard Bernstein’s “A Little Bit in Love” from Wonderful Town. Her recital will conclude with Jeff Bowen’s “Secondary Characters” from . Baltzley will be accompanied by Susan Monroe.

Brackett, a Springdale native, has been a member of OBU’s Concert Choir and Women’s Chorus and has been named a state semi-finalist in the National Association of Teachers of Singing auditions. She has also appeared as a chorus member in Ouachita’s production of Bye, Bye Birdie and has been named to Ouachita’s Dean’s List.

Bracket’s recital will begin with Tom Kitt’s “Superboy and the Invisible Girl” from Next to Normal, followed by Elton John’s “I Know the Truth” from Aida and Charles Strouse’s “Spanish Rose” from Bye, Bye Birdie. She will conclude with a scene from Poof! By Lynn Nottage. Brackett will be accompanied by Terri Lucas.

Cody Myers, a sophomore musical theatre and psychology major from Van Buren, Ark., will also perform a recital at this time. For more information, contact OBU’s School of Fine Arts at (870) 245-5129.
