Ouachita to host retirement reception for faculty and staff May 2

Ouachita Baptist University will hold a reception honoring 17 retiring faculty and
staff members Wednesday, May 2, in Walker Conference Center.
“Each year before the close of the spring semester, we honor those who are retiring
from the faculty and staff at Ouachita,” said Phil Hardin, assistant to the president
for administration. “We want to say thank you and to call attention to the contributions
made by those who have invested their lives with our students.”
The 17 retiring faculty and staff members have served at Ouachita a total of 410 years,
averaging more than 24 years each. Two faculty members have completed more than 40
years of service: Tona Wright with 41 years of service and Glenn Good with 43 years
of service.
Retiring faculty members include: Nona Anderson, professor of modern languages; Eddie
Ary, associate professor of finance; Shirley Dumais, assistant professor and circulation/reference
librarian; Jan Duncan, professor of modern languages; Cookey Flora, lecturer in English;
Sim Flora, professor of music; Steven Garner, assistant professor of music; Glenn
Good, Charles S. and Elma Grey Goodwin Holt Professor of Physics and Pre-Medical Studies;
Russell Hodges, associate professor of music and music librarian; Richard Mills, professor
of sociology; Irene Trofimova, professor of modern languages; Lindsay Van Sicklen,
assistant professor and periodicals librarian; and Tona Wright, professor of kinesiology
and leisure studies.
Retiring staff members include: Jan Bass, public schools coordinator for the Ben M.
Elrod Center for Family and Community; Claire Gibson, assistant registrar; Cindy Goodman,
administrative assistant for special programs; and Eugene Pate, grounds crew staff.
According to Hardin, the drop-in reception will begin at 4 p.m. in the Walker Conference
Center on the Ouachita campus. At about 4:15, President Rex M. Horne Jr. will present
retirement and emeritus awards. Family and friends of the retirees are welcome to
join the campus community for the reception.
