“Small Works on Paper” art exhibit on display at Ouachita Baptist University

September 04, 2012 - Ryleigh Salmon

The Arkansas Arts Council presents “Small Works on Paper,” a traveling art exhibit showing now through Sept. 20 at Ouachita Baptist University’s Hammons Gallery, located in Mabee Fine Arts Center.

“Small Works on Paper” is the first in a series of exhibits to be shown in Hammons Gallery this fall, and Hammons is one of 10 galleries throughout the state to host the traveling exhibit. For 25 years, the “Small Works on Paper” exhibit has displayed pieces that vary in style and technique, such as photographs, drawings and paintings, by Arkansas artists. This year’s show features 40 works of art that were chosen from 246 entries by Marcia Goldstein, professor of drawing and painting at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

“One purpose or goal the Arkansas Arts Council intends for the ‘Small Works on Paper exhibit,’ is to provide rural communities with art,” said Donnie Copeland, assistant professor of Art and Design and chair of OBU’s Department of Art and Design, “We fit that description.”

The exhibit is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The exhibit is also available during evenings when other School of Fine Arts events are held in Mabee Fine Arts Center. For more information, contact the School of Fine Arts at (870) 245-5129.
