Ouachita Singers to present concert Oct. 18

Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will present the Ouachita Singers
in concert Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Mabee Fine Arts Center's McBeth Recital Hall on
the Ouachita campus. The concert is free and open to the public.
"This is one of the premier choral ensembles on campus," said Dr. Gary Gerber, chair
of the division of music, director of choral activities and professor of music. Gerber
also serves as director of the choir.
Ouachita Singers, a 46-member mixed choir, travels throughout the state and region
singing in schools and churches. The group travels on international tours every three
to four years. The choir is open to all students on campus through a selective audition
process.
The concert program will feature both religious and secular selections, including:
"Cantate Domino" by Claudio Monteverdi, "Ave Maria" by Franz Biebl, "Be Still" by
Mary McDonald, "Song of Exaltation" by John Ness Beck, "O Magnum Mysterium" by Morten
Lauridsen, "Cry No More" by Dan Forrest and "Sing Me to Heaven" by Daniel Gawthrop.
Additionally, the choir will perform: "A Red, Red Rose" by James Mulholland, "I Am
Not Yours" by David Dickau, Gunnar Eriksson’s arrangement of "To the Mothers in Brazil:
Salve Regina,” "Psuedo-Yoik" by Jaako Mäntyjärvi, "Beati quorum via" by Charles Villeirs
Stanford and "Jeremiah's Fire" by Rollo Dillworth. The group will be accompanied on
piano by Dr. Adam Haas, OBU lecturer in music.
