Ouachita to host Clarinet, Flute and Saxophone Ensembles in concert Nov. 5

The Ouachita Baptist University Division of Music will host the OBU Clarinet Choir,
Saxophone Quartet and Flute Ensemble in concert Monday, Nov. 5, at 7:30 p.m. in W.
Francis McBeth Recital Hall in Mabee Fine Arts Center. The event is free and the public
is invited to attend.
The groups “will be performing a variety of works,” said Dr. Caroline Taylor, professor
of music and director of the Saxophone Quartet and Clarinet Choir.
The Clarinet Choir will perform “The Barber of Seville” by Rossini, “Puttin’ on the
Ritz” by Irving Berlin, Lennie Niehaus’ arrangement of “Spiritual Jazz Suite,” “Adagio”
by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Megan Massey’s arrangement of “When I’m 64.” The Flute
Ensemble will perform Fred J. Allen’s arrangement of the traditional Welsh melody
“All Through the Night,” “Masques” by Anne McGinty and Björn Axelsson’s arrangement
of “Vallfickans Dans” by Hugo Alfvén. The Saxophone Quartet will perform “Handel in
the Strand” by Percy Grainger, “Premier Quatour, Op. 53” by Jean Baptist Singelée
and “Three Improvisations” by Phil Woods.
Members of the Clarinet Choir include: Hannah Bowen, a sophomore choral music education
major from Lewisville, Texas; Kaela Butler, a freshman early childhood education major
from Lincoln, Ark.; Kristen James, a senior kinesiology and leisure studies/recreation
major from Missouri City, Texas; Allison King, a sophomore instrumental music education
major from Fort Worth, Texas; Megan Massey, a junior instrumental music education
major from Weatherford, Texas; Crista Riggs, a senior chemistry and biology major
from Edmond, Okla.; Chelsea Villanueva, a sophomore instrumental music education major
from Bentonville, Ark.; Sara Walker, a sophomore Christian studies/Christian missions
and ministry major from Sulphur Springs, Texas; and Lauren West, a junior music major
from Hot Springs, Ark.
Members of the Flute Ensemble include: Megan Archer, a freshman music education major
from Osceola, Ark.; Elizabeth Baker, a junior music performance and French major from
Grapevine, Texas; Maegan Hodge, a junior secondary Spanish education major from Springdale,
Ark.; William Lawson, a freshman music and Spanish major from Bryant, Ark.; Kathryn
Lee, a senior music education major from Azle, Texas; Hannah Osborne, a freshman sociology
and missions major from Mineola, Texas; Emma Patterson, a junior vocal music education
major from Garland, Texas; LeeAnne Polk, a junior music performance major from Greenville,
Texas; Elyse Senteney, a senior music education major from Plano, Texas; and Grace
Thomas, a senior studio art major from Rogers, Ark. They are directed by Kristin Grant,
OBU assistant professor of music.
Members of the Saxophone Quartet include: Zach Barber, a freshman instrumental music
education major from Ennis, Texas; Allan Bateman, a senior music theory and composition
major from Perryville, Ark.; Bradley Lindsey, a senior music major from Longview,
Texas; and Brent Nessler, a junior instrumental music education major from Rowlett,
Texas.
