Ouachita Career Services to host “Branding Yourself with Social Media” April 5 & “Speed Networking” April 11

April 01, 2013 - Kelsey Lamb

Ouachita Baptist University’s Career Services will host two events, “Branding Yourself with Social Media” and “Speed Networking,” to offer students the opportunity to interact with OBU alumni and learn from their professional career expertise. The events will be held on April 5 and 11, respectively.

"I love bring alums back to campus as often as possible,” said Lauren Land, director of career services. “They fully understand the quality of a Ouachita education and can be our students’ best advocates for future jobs and internships."

“Branding Yourself with Social Media” will be held on Friday, April 5, from 12 noon to 12:50 p.m. in the Alumni Room in the Ouachita Commons. All students in any major are encouraged to grab their lunch and attend the session. Brent Gambill, a 2001 OBU alumnus and vice president and director of digital and social media at Martin Wilbourn Partners, will conduct the presentation and discussion.

"Social media is only growing more important as both a job-search and a personal marketing tool," Land noted. This workshop is designed to show students how to utilize social media when looking for job opportunities and to also discuss how to brand yourself in a more positive light through social media.

The “Speed Networking” event is set for Thursday, April 11, from 4 to 6 p.m. in Walker Conference Center. There are only 30 spots for this event, and registration is required. To sign up, contact Land at [email protected] or stop by the Career Services office on the first floor of Cone-Bottoms Hall.

This event will provide students the opportunity to meet with 30 Ouachita alumni who have been successful in the work force. Each student will get 2.5 minutes with each alumnus. During this time, the student and alumnus will exchange contact information and discuss the alumnus’ career path as well as what the student is hoping to pursue.

For more information, contact Lauren Land at [email protected] or (870) 245-5593.
