Ouachita Career Services to host Student Internship Panel Sept. 18
September 12, 2013 - Kaitie Scott
Ouachita Baptist University Career Services will host a Student Internship Panel on
Wednesday, Sept. 18, from 12-12:45 p.m. at the Ouachita Commons Alumni Room for all
students of any major. The panel consists of current Ouachita students who will share
their experiences from their particular internship. Interested students may bring
their lunch to the seminar.
Students will be helping students with a guided Q&A by Lauren Land, director of Ouachita
Career Services. “Internships are important and take time planning to make happen,”
said Land. A lot of companies’ application process is early in the year, making it
important to begin exploring internship options now.
“Internships are extremely valuable when thinking about pursing a career,” said David
Day, a senior business administration and management major from Highlands Ranch, Co., who worked as a Northwestern Mutual Financial Representative Intern. “It gives you
a little taste of what it can be like in the field you want to pursue.”
Not only do internships look good on a résumé, but offer hands-on work experience.
“I learned valuable information this summer from my experience that you can never
learn in a classroom,” Day said.
The panelists will provide advice on how to find, apply and succeed in an internship.
“Not one of the panel members had the same experience,” explained Day. “But all members
will have stories and information that can help students realize what type of internship
might be right for them.”
Other panelists include: Tori Abellera, a senior mass communications major from Garland,
Texas (Stone Ward, Little Rock); Samuel Cushman, a junior mass communications major
from Springdale (FUNimation, Dallas, Texas); Jeremy Dixon, a junior Christian media
and communications major from Benton (Long Hollow Baptist Church, Nashville, Tenn.);
Lindsey Fowler, a senior political science major from Arkadelphia (Arkansas Business,
Little Rock); Ashley Glover, a senior biology major from Stuttgart (Arkansas Children’s
Hospital, Little Rock); Meg Hart, a senior accounting major from Little Rock (Windstream,
Little Rock); and David Sypult, a senior accounting major from Rogers (WalMart Corporate
Office, Bentonville).
