Looking for a major? It’s fair season at Ouachita on Oct. 16

October 10, 2013 - Kate Cody

Ouachita Baptist University Career Services will host a Majors Fair on the main campus lawn on Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Majors Fair is an opportunity for freshmen and students with undecided majors or minors to explore the options Ouachita offers.

“We invite all academic departments to participate, which gives students the ability to easily talk with a number of professors in one central place at one central time,” said Lauren Land, director of career services.

Dr. Stan Poole, OBU’s vice president for academic affairs, said, “Our faculty are always open to talking with students about their academic areas, but the fair makes it easy to learn more about a variety of majors in a very low-pressure setting.”

This is the fifth Majors Fair that Career Services has hosted, and this year the event will coincide with Lunch on the Lawn, hosted by Sodexo. Campus organizations are also invited to participate to foster a “festive and upbeat” atmosphere, Land said.

Megan Scarbrough, a senior biology major from Fayetteville, Ark., said, “The Majors Fair is always a great way to see what is available at Ouachita. As a freshman I already had an idea of what I wanted to do, but being able to meet other people in my major and professors in my major was a great experience.”

Poole added, “I hope students will take advantage of this chance to find out more about the many outstanding academic programs at Ouachita.”

In case of rain, the Majors Fair will move to Evans Student Center. For more information, contact Lauren Land at [email protected] or (870) 245-5283.
