Ouachita to host 10-Minute Play Festival March 8

February 28, 2014 - Jessica Stewart

Ouachita Baptist University’s Department of Theatre Arts will host the 13th annual 10-Minute Play Festival March 6-8. Auditions for the shows will be Thursday, March 6, rehearsals will begin Friday, March 7, and shows will be performed Saturday, March 8, at 7:30 p.m. in Verser Theatre. The Saturday performance is free and open to the public.

“I hope the festival is a fun weekend of theatre,” said Jordan Miller, a senior musical theatre major from Rockwall, Texas. Once shows are cast after the Thursday auditions, participants rehearse throughout the night Friday to prepare for their Saturday performance.

Students of all majors and experience are encouraged to audition and participate. “I want it to be a chance for theatre students to leave the school aspect of performance and just play, “ Miller explained. “But I also want the non-departmental participants to have a fun time in an arena they don’t always get to be in.”

Miller is directing the festival along with Blaine Surber, a senior musical theatre major from Sulpher Springs, Texas, and Shelby Spears, a sophomore English major from El Dorado, Ark.  This year’s festival is hosted by Ouachita’s chapter of Theta Alpha Phi national honor fraternity for theatre arts.
