Ouachita to hold 2014 spring commencement service May 10.April 28, 2014 - Trennis Henderson

Ouachita Baptist University will hold its 127th spring commencement exercises on Saturday, May 10, at 9:30 a.m. on the front lawn of the university’s historic Cone-Bottoms Hall. The ceremony will honor 357 graduates earning degrees including Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Music Education degrees.

Ouachita President Rex M. Horne, Jr., will preside over the annual commencement exercises. Dr. Scott Duvall, J.C. and Mae Fuller Professor of Biblical Studies, and Dr. Raouf Halaby, professor of Art and Design and English, will serve as commencement marshals. Honorary marshals are Dr. Ouida Keck, Addie Mae Maddox Professor of Music, and Dr. Robert Webster, professor of accounting and holder of the George Young Chair of Business.

The ceremony will include an invocation by Senior Class President Garet West, a mass communications major from Bolivar, Mo. Scripture reading will be led by four students: Kyle Fischer, a Christian studies and Biblical languages major from Texarkana, Texas; Elise Holman, a political science, Christian media/communications and mass communications major from Berryville, Ark.; Chris Redmon, a Christian studies, Biblical languages and philosophy major from Little Rock; and Hunter Threadgill, a philosophy and psychology major from Cordova, Tenn.

Dr. Stan Poole, vice president for academic affairs, will introduce the graduates. Dr. Danny Hays, dean of the Pruet School of Christian Studies, will lead a responsive reading and Gene Whisenhunt, chairman of the Board of Trustees, will deliver the prayer of dedication.
