Ouachita expresses condolences over unexpected death of football recruit

January 27, 2015 - OBU News Bureau

Mikal Cromartie, a prospective student-athlete who made a campus visit to Ouachita Baptist University yesterday as a football recruit, died unexpectedly in his hotel room in Caddo Valley.

University officials were informed that Cromartie, age 21, of Crawfordville, Fla., was found unresponsive in his hotel room this morning and was pronounced dead by the Clark County coroner.

“We are terribly saddened by this news and extend our deepest sympathies and prayers for the family," said Ouachita President Rex Horne.

Clark County Sheriff Jason Watson said the Arkansas State Crime Lab is conducting an examination "pursuant to standard procedure of someone this age." He added that "there is absolutely no suspicion of foul play involved." The Clark County Sheriff's Office and other authorities are investigating the tragedy.
