Ouachita’s Wind Ensemble to present spring concert March 10

Ouachita Baptist University’s Wind Ensemble will present its spring concert Thursday,
March 10, at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Performing Arts Center. The concert is free and open
to the public. It also will be webcast on www.obu.edu/band.
“I am very proud of the Wind Ensemble,” said Dr. Craig Hamilton, Ouachita’s Lena Goodwin
Trimble Professor of Music and director of bands. “We have prepared a concert that
everyone will enjoy.”
The concert will feature a variety of musical selections, including “Ecstatic Fanfare,”
a composition by Ouachita alumnus Steven Bryant who is recognized worldwide as an
accomplished composer.
Among featured performances during the evening, Jason Potts, winner of the 2015 W.
Francis and Mary McBeth Concerto Competition, will perform in “Trombone Concerto,”
composed by Derek Bourgeois and edited by Hamilton. Nevada Mills, assistant director
of bands, will conduct “Children’s March: Over the Hills and Far Away” by Percy Aldridge
Grainger and edited by R. Mark Rogers.
Other selections will include “Simple Gifts: Four Shaker Songs” by Frank Ticheli,
“Benediction” by John Stevens, “A Sacred Suite” by Brant Karrick, “Meditation” by
Dwayne S. Milburn and “Mayflower Overture” by Ron Nelson.
The spring 2016 Wind Ensemble includes 37 student musicians. For more information,
