Ouachita to host senior art exhibit by Audrey Nisbet Nov. 28 through Dec. 9

January 01, 2020

Ouachita Baptist University’s Rosemary Adams Department of Art and Design will host Audrey Nisbet in her senior art exhibit, “Bring into Being.” The exhibit will be on display in Moses-Provine Hall’s Rosemary Gossett Adams Gallery from Nov. 28 through Dec. 9. A reception will be held Monday, Dec. 5, at 5 p.m.

Nisbet is a senior art and graphic design major from Arkadelphia, Ark. Her exhibit will feature two mediums of art: storyboarding done with the assistance of a computer design program and wood burning. The different mediums will portray a common theme of stories.

“I really enjoy telling stories,” Nisbet explained. “My exhibit is a combination of stories of people I’ve met, places I’ve been and things I’ve learned as well, such as Japanese mythology and children’s literature.”

The pieces have been a work in progress for several months. Nisbet was first introduced to wood burning when her professor instructed her to find a new medium to try. As she grew in the art form, she developed new methods of creating her stories on the wood. “It takes a lot of patience and if you get it wrong, you have to re-start the whole thing,” she explained, “but the experience is comforting with the smell of the burning wood and the permanence of it.

“The senior art show has always been a badge of honor that our students get to do,” Nisbet said. “I grew up here at Ouachita and I remember seeing a whole bunch of seniors putting together these massive and beautiful pieces of art. Now that I have been here a while, it fascinates me that this is all something these students have done themselves.”

The exhibit can be viewed during regular Adams Gallery hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, contact OBU’s School of Fine Arts at (870) 245-5129.
