Finley, Osborn and Scott to present sophomore recitals at Ouachita March 10

Ouachita Baptist University will host Michaela Finley, Kenzie Osborn and Scotty Scott as they present their sophomore recitals on Friday, March 10, at 11 a.m. The recitals will be held in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital Hall on Ouachita’s campus, and admission is free and open to the public.

Finley, from Cedarville, Ark.; Osborn, from Rockwall, Texas; and Scott, from Russellville, Ark., are all musical theatre majors. Each recital will include selections from various theatre productions.

Finley will open her recital with Jerome Kern’s “Bill” from Showboat. She will then perform Act One, Scene Two from George Kaufman’s and Moss Hart’s The Man Who Came to Dinner, followed by Benj Pasek’s and Justin Paul’s “First Date/Last Night” from Dogfight. Finley will close her recital with David Kirshenbaum’s “Fly into the Future” from Vanities.

Finley is a student of David Stanley, instructor of music, and Drew Hampton, assistant professor of theatre arts. Bonnie Gentry, a freshman musical theatre major from Arlington, Texas, helped choreograph Finley’s recital, and Zachary Myers, a junior musical theatre major from Greenwood, Ark., will perform with Finley for part of the recital. Kristen LaMadrid, a Ouachita staff accompanist, will accompany Finley for the recital.

Osborn will begin with Richard Rodgers’ “I Wish I Were in Love Again” from Babes in Arms and continue with George Gershwin’s “Do It Again” from Nice Work If You Can Get It. Osborn will then perform Act 1, Scene 1 from Ken Ludwig’s Moon Over Buffalo and will close with Tom Kitt’s “You Learn to Live Without” from If/Then.

Osborn is a student of Dr. Glenda Secrest, professor of music, and Drew Hampton. Olivia Witcher, a junior theatre arts and Spanish double major from Little Rock, Ark., choreographed Osborn’s recital, and Michael Peré, a senior musical theatre major from Roland, Ark., will perform with Osborn for part of the recital. Susan Monroe, staff accompanist, will accompany Finley during the recital.

Scott’s recital will open with Stephen Sondheim’s “Hello Little Girl” from Into the Woods. He will then perform Benj Pasek’s and Justin Paul’s “Along the Way” from Edges, Scene One from Sam Wolfson’s Boy Meets Girl: A Young Love Story and Frank Loesser’s “My Time of Day” from Guys and Dolls. Scott’s recital will close with Claude-Michel Schönberg’s and Alain Boublil’s “Here on This Night” from The Pirate Queen.

Scott is a student of Dr. Jon Secrest, Addie Mae Maddox Professor of Music, and Dr. Scott Holsclaw, professor of theatre arts. Jacob Hemsath, a senior musical theatre major from Wylie, Texas, helped choreograph the recital, and Jessica Brunson, a sophomore vocal performance major from Rockwall, Texas, will perform part of the recital with Scott. LaMadrid will accompany Scott for the recital.
