Ouachita Division of Music to present Brass Chamber Ensemble Concert April 3
March 17, 2017 - Haley Wilkerson
Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will present its Brass Chamber Ensembles
in concert at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 3, in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital
Hall on Ouachita’s campus. The concert is free and open to the public.
The concert will feature performances from Ouachita’s Brass Quintet, Trumpet Trio,
Horn Trio and Trombone Choir.
“It will be an evening of great music from these smaller ensembles,” said Dr. Justin
Isenhour, OBU assistant professor of music. “Usually our students perform as part
of the Wind Ensemble or a larger band. This program gives them a chance to develop
their musicianship in an individualistic setting.”
The Brass Quintet will begin the concert with Samuel Scheidt’s “Canzona Bergmasca,”
Morley Calvert’s “Suite from the Menteregian Hills” and Fred Fisher’s “Chicago.”
The concert will continue with the Trumpet Trio performing William Presser’s “Suite
for Three Trumpets,” Michael Tippett’s “Fanfare No. 3” and Lennie Nichaus’ “Three
Jazz Sketches.”
Next in the program line-up is the Horn Trio with Froydis Ree Werke’s “Fugue” and
Lowell E. Shaw’s “Trippery No. 1.”
The Trombone Choir will conclude the concert with John Williams’ “Olympic Fanfare,”
Greg Danner’s “The Amazing Adventures of the Escapist” and Anton Bruckner’s “Inveni
David.”
