Ouachita seniors Hannah Hines and Cody Walls to present musical theatre recital Oct. 26

Hannah Hines and Cody Walls will present their senior musical theatre recital on Thursday, Oct. 26, at 7:30 p.m. The recital, which will be in Ouachita Baptist University’s McBeth Recital Hall in Mabee Fine Arts Center, is free and open to the public.

Hannah Hines is a senior musical theatre and mass communications double major from Russellville, Ark. She is a member of Alpha Psi Omega national theatre honor society, Ouachita’s Carl Goodson Honors Program and Alpha Chi national honor society. Hines has won second place at the 2015 National Association of Teachers of Singing regional competition and at Ouachita’s 2016 Shambarger Competition for Singers.

“Ouachita’s impact has been immeasurable both professionally and personally. The education I have received has been incredible,” Hines said. “I’m excited to present this show that Cody and I put together as our capstone performance at Ouachita.”

Cody Walls is a senior musical theatre major from Van Buren, Ark., and is a member of Alpha Psi Omega national theatre honor society.

“Ouachita has helped me grow and become more passionate about my craft. I get a little emotional thinking about its impact on my life,” Walls said. “I think the passion and progress will be shown in every piece that’s performed that evening.”

Hines and Walls will perform several popular compositions including: Jerry Herman’s “Elegance” from Hello, Dolly!, Cyndi Lauper’s “History of Wrong Guys” from Kinky Boots, Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey’s “Mooning” from Grease, Matthew Skylar’s “Not That Kind of Thing” from The Wedding Singer, Stephen Sondheim’s “Move On” from Sunday in the Park with George, Pasek and Paul’s “Words Fails” from Dear Evan Hansen, Frank Wildhorn’s “Once More I Can See” from Wonderland and Joey Contreras’ “Ready” from Love Me, Love Me Not.

Dramatic presentations will include selections from Noel Coward’s Blithe Spirit, Wendy Wasserstein’s The Heidi Chronicles and Donald Margulies’ Dinner with Friends.

Hines’ principal instructors are Dr. Margaret Garrett, associate professor of music, and Dr. Scott Holsclaw, professor of theatre arts. Walls’ principal instructors are Holsclaw and Dr. Glenda Secrest, professor of music. The recital accompanist will be Phyllis Walker. Kenzie Osborn, a junior musical theatre major from Rockwall, Texas, and Will Stotts, a senior musical theatre major from Jonesboro, Ark., will assist Hines and Walls in their performances.
