Ouachita's Percussion Ensemble to perform in concert April 9

Ouachita’s Percussion Ensemble to perform in concert April 9.March 26, 2018 - Sarah Davis

Ouachita Baptist University’s Percussion Ensemble will perform in concert on Monday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m. The concert, which is free and open to the public, will be held in Ouachita’s McBeth Recital Hall in Mabee Fine Arts Center.

The ensemble, made up of both music majors and non-music majors, will perform pieces composed in the last 20 years and will feature a variety of styles. The program includes “Blue Burn” by Joe Tompkins, “Tesseract” by Fransico Perez, “Crown of Thorns” by David Maslanka and “Echo Funk” by Johnathan Ovalle.

“The best thing about the percussion ensemble is that the instrumentation can vary drastically from one piece to the next,” said Percussion Ensemble Director Adam Davis, adjunct instructor of music. “Composers can make use of a multitude of instruments when writing for the percussion ensemble, which makes each performance new and exciting.”
