Jhonika Wright to perform sophomore recital April 6 at Ouachita

Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will host Jhonika Wright in her sophomore musical theatre recital on Friday, April 6, at 2 p.m. The recital, which is free and open to the public, will be held in McBeth Recital Hall in Ouachita’s Mabee Fine Arts Center.

Wright, a musical theatre major from Little Rock, Ark., will perform Harvey Schmidt’s “Raunchy” from 110 in the Shade, Jonathan Larson’s “Therapy” from Tick Tick Boom and Michael Weiner and Alan Zachary’s “Safer” from First Date. She also will perform a dramatic presentation of Act 2, Scene 1 of David Lindsay-Abaire’s Rabbit Hole.

Wright’s principal instructors are Dr. Glenda Secrest, professor of music, and Dr. Scott Holsclaw, professor of theatre arts and chair of the Division of Applied Arts. Phyllis Walker will be the accompanist for the recital. The choreographer is Autumn Romines, a sophomore musical theatre major from Cabot, Ark. Dylan Blackwood, a sophomore musical theatre major from Walnut Ridge, Ark., will assist Wright.
